An Apron For BabyStitches

BabyStitches turned three in December!!  Boy, is she growing fast!!  In addition to her "Number 3" shirts, (which I'll hopefully get posted here one of these days!) I made her a little apron.  I was talking to SonStitches on the phone and asked what the little one might like for her birthday. He replied that she'd really like an apron to wear when she's helping them in the kitchen.

And here is the result.

I used a wavy green print for one side of the apron.

The other side is a cute cat print.

I think it's obvious which fabric BabyStitches likes best.

And when baking is over, another type of apron is needed!

The end result.

More Aprons

Busy sewing some more aprons for TwoFish Baking Company.  It seems they always need aprons there, though I can't understand why!!

On this apron I made the pockets of the same fabric as the front, so you can't see them.  You'll just have to take my word for it.

And on this apron, I reverted to my method of using the opposite side's fabric for the pockets.  I like it when that makes the pockets stand out, but the two fabrics don't fight or clash.  Sometimes, I admit, the pocket fabric and the apron fabric simply do not play well together.

I think I need to be a little more strict about which fabrics I use for the pockets, just so everyone is happy!

More Aprons For TwoFish Bakery

It was time to make some more aprons for the wonderful bakers and workers over at TwoFish Bakery.  I gathered my fabrics and started preparations.  I planned to make seven aprons.  So I needed 14 different fabrics.  I put them into pairs--two that play fairly well together.  I use one fabric for the outside and its "friend" on the inside.  And the aprons are therefore reversible.

Most of these fabrics had been bought with aprons in mind when I found them on sale for $3.00 per yard.  (What a deal, right!?!)

Here you can see that I traced the paper pattern onto interfacing.  I've used it enough times that it is getting very worn.  Making this copy was a very good idea.  You can see that it is Kwik Sew pattern #2311.  It takes one yard of fabric for each side of the apron.

I worked on this project assembly-line style.  First I cut out the two fabrics at once (4 layers of fabric, with the pattern laid on the fold.)

I took all of the pocket pieces and pinned them together. Then sewed them all together.  Then turned them all right side out.  Then pressed all of them.  Then pinned them all onto the apron pieces.  This worked way better than making one apron all the way through at one time.

Here are all the straps laying together.

And here is the big pile of finished aprons before they got ironed.

And here they all are, one at a time.  This might be a little boring, so you can go through them quickly if you want!

Beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabric!

A pretty, "retro" fabric.

This "garden" fabric is leftover from BabyStitches quilt.

The beautiful Kaffe fabric again, paired with a different print.

A light and pretty floral.

This paisley and check are both rust colors--almost brown.  They go together so well.

And this bold black floral print.
Here all seven are draped over the chair at once!

And stacked up. . .

. . . and showing the contrasting pockets.

A good job finished.  It is very rewarding to make these aprons, because the recipients like them so much!

Aprons For Two Fish Bakery

Last week I spent a lot of my time sewing aprons.  I've mentioned before that I make aprons for Margaret at TwoFish Bakery.  I really enjoy making these aprons.  Choosing two fabrics for each apron is a big part of the fun.

This one looks like jelly beans!  I don't usually choose a solid fabric for an apron, but this blue went so well with the colorful jelly beans.

This lovely lemon fabric was left over after I made the "food baby quilt" for little GranddaughterStitches when she was first born.

This last one is bread fabric!  I found it at my local quilt shop, The Loft.  Most appropriate for a bakery, I think.

And here is Margaret with the aprons.  She was so happy that she put on all three!

These aprons really are fun to make, especially when I get into the groove and make several.  My paper pattern is beginning to show wear though, with lots and lots of pin holes.  So I traced the pattern onto some pattern-tracing pellon.  This will make it last much longer.

Then on Friday I went to a quilting work day with some members of my Quilt Guild.  We were working on things to sell at our fund raisers.  And I had some Christmas fabric, so I made--guess what--more aprons!

I think they came out quite nice.  The red fabric has a very small white dot pattern on it.  The only difference in these aprons is that they have no pockets.  Margaret insists on having pockets on her aprons.  (Personally, I don't!)  But I had misplaced the pattern piece for the pockets.  I know I could have just made a square pocket, instead of the curved one in the pattern, but without pockets these aprons went together lickety-split fast!

They are all ready to be sold!

Aprons for the Bakers

Time to make some more aprons for my favorite bakers, Margaret and Hilla at Two Fish Baking Company.  Once I got started, I couldn't stop!

.

So I ended up making six of them this time.

I really enjoy making these aprons.  It's fun to go through my stash and find two fabrics that will "play well together" for each apron.

The apron below uses some of my Harmony Art organic fabric, "40 Ginkgos." And it was lined with fabric that I used for sashing strips on my President's Quilt.

Harmony Art fabric was also used for the apron on the left, "Whispering Grass" in orchid.

Is it ironic that I never make an apron for myself?  I almost always wear an apron when I cook or bake, but they are the plain white ones that I buy at the restaurant supply store!

By the way, I've added a new "gadget" to the right sidebar of my blog.  It is to enable you to sign up and receive my blog posts by email, if you so desire.

Aprons for the Bakers

I recently sewed some new aprons for Margaret at Two Fish Baking Company.  It seems that several of the employees there are also "height challenged."  The aprons I make have nice full bibs, but are not too long, so they work well for the under 5'5" set.

Playing around with different strap widths.

Product works well for baking pizza!
