Baby Afghans

Lots of afghans being stitched up here!  Sometimes it seems like they just fly off my fingers!
In December I took ten of them to Project Santa here in my town.

Two different shades of pink look nice together.  Simple double crochet stitch throughout.

You can just ignore that shadow in the lower left corner!

This one  used all the same color, but I mixed up things a little bit by adding some random skipped stitches.

Crocheted Baby Afghans

Here are the latest baby afghans I've crocheted.  The first is a nice peachy-pinky color.

I simply used single crochet and double crochet for the whole thing.  Then I added in one row of "filagree," creating a little interest to the overall pattern.

This purple one ended up to be square.

On each end I crocheted some filagree spaces in two bands across the afghan.

And, just for fun, I purposely made a little square "hole" in the body.

This light blue one turned out very nicely, I think.

I used a stitch where I skip a stitch, then do a single crochet and a double crochet both in the next stitch.  It makes a nice little pattern.

And this afghan is made up of my leftover yarns.  I really like making these scrappy afghans.

Here are all four of the afghans.

More Afghans Crocheted

Even when I'm not quilting, or writing on my blog, my fingers are usually active.  Here are some of the baby afghans I've made recently.  In December I took quite a few of them to the Project Santa people here in my town, to be distributed to people who need them.

This one was made to use up all my little leftover pieces of yarn.  I think I like how it turned out!

For this one, I just happened to have a variegated yarn with light blues and greens in it, and it just happened to go with some leftover blue and green yarns I had.

And then the fun of crocheting with variegated yarn.  I added a little interest by leaving some "holes" in a few of the rows.

This bright pink afghan is made using double crochet.  I left blank stitches ("holes") very randomly throughout the afghan.

Another fun variegated yarn.

I varied big and little stitches for this one.

And more. . .

and more. . .

. . . and more.

An Afghan For Project Santa

Here is another baby afghan, the latest one I've made.  I took this afghan and four others to Project Santa in December.  Project Santa helps people out at Christmas time with food and gifts to those needing them.  I was glad to find an "outlet" for some of my baby afghans.

I simply used double crochet for each row--very easy.

I just love using variegated yarn to crochet with!  It's fun to watch the colors change as I work row after row.

What Happens To All Those Baby Afghans?

Here are a few more baby afghans that I've made recently.

Now I'll tell you what I did with them.  I gave quite a few of them to Project Santa here in Gualala, California.  Project Santa helps a lot of poor families at Christmas time.  Food, toys, presents, clothes, and yes, afghans.  I took 10 afghans to them, then I took over 6 more the next week.  I'm glad there are people who will be pleased to receive my little baby afghans.  And don't worry about me.  I still have a lot of them left.  I store them in little nooks and crannies all around my house!

More Crocheting

You might recognize the yarn colors in this afghan from this post not too long ago.

Yes, I'm using up the leftover yarn from that great big afghan that I made for the play.  This is one of my favorite "non-pattern patterns."  I simply crochet along the rows and insert "holes" in random places.  For some reason, this amuses me!

The next afghan is, yes, that same pink color.  I really didn't want to run out of yarn so I bought more than I needed.  I knew I would use it all eventually.

This one was simply groups of rows of single crochet, then double crochet, then treble crochet.

KittyStitches is checking out this afghan.  Probably wondering if it would make a suitable place for a nap!

This last is an afghan made of variegated yarn, which I love working with.  It was a thicker yarn than usual, but I sometimes like to use that.

Crocheted Afghans (Not Again!)

Yes, I've been crocheting.  Again.  Still.  And I have three more baby afghans to show you.  This first one is made all from one color, a nice kind of minty color.  I simply did rows of single crochet, and occasionally put in two rows of double crochet to add a little texture.

The next two afghans might qualify to be called "patchwork."  In each of these, I used some different colors of yarn.  I started work on the one below, with the blue yarn.  After crocheting quite a few rows, I realized I had made the beginning row too long.  I knew that I wouldn't have enough yarn to make it as tall as I would like it to be for my given width.

I was with some friends, and one of them suggested that I fill in with some other colors of yarn, which would also use up some of my random leftover pieces of yarn.  So I did just that, and ended up with a fun, "non-scripted" middle section.  I really like how it turned out, and now I have a little less leftover yarn, too!

I did the multi-colored part in the middle, then finished up with the same blue that I started with.

This is one of my favorite stitches to do.  I double crochet, then occasionally I chain one, skip a stitch, and double crochet into the next stitch.  That makes the "holes" in the afghan.

This last afghan is also of the "patchwork" variety.  I started with the yellow, then chose a few other colors, finishing up with the same yellow.  And yes, that blue in the center is what was left over from the previous afghan!
